The bowing was a nice touch. Tarantulas are great, they should be used more often. Only once this week.

This is a poll going on in the French area. A surprising number of votes for the medusa, but they haven't had a chance to get tired of it yet.
-
One of those Tarantula votes is mine, so only one of thirteen votes was cast for the Tarantulas by the French kids so far.
-
Actually, I was more interested in the monsters' names. They call the Manta Ray just a Ray, and the ass-draggers they call something that translates roughly as Creeper, I think. I don't know how "official" these are -- perhaps I have missed them in the English broadcasts. :a13:

As I said in another post, I loved the bowing. ^_^

Ass draggers? Which ones are those?

Yeah, that Medusa thing is kind of annoying. It seems to have absolutely no effect on Aelita. You can never tell if it has adverse effects, because Jeremie never checks that out. He always seems to be like "Whatever....they got it off of her, she must be fine," or something. It seems like maybe he should be checking that out...^_^

Actually they say "Manta" in the show.

Yes, "rampant" means "creeper" (like a snake). How do they call them in English?

In my opinion, the best word to describe "Rampant" in english should be "Slugs"

Kyst: They are the nasty monsts that are only in Terr-5 (I think), and only have two legs, at the front, so they move around by dragging their rear ends along. They are the ones with a "gun" in their mouths (not the Tarantulas, as I mistakenly said earlier).
-
CP and Oli: Thanks, guys. I'm very poor at catching these names in the shows' audio. (Too many years of pistol target competition hammering my eardrums. I wish CL had optional subtitles for the hearing impaired; they come in handy for me sometimes when I can't quite catch something that's being said.) Garooob and exo are much better at it, and I think one of them has referred to the flyers as "Manta Rays". Maybe they will jump in here -- this discussion is why I brought the poll up here.
-
As for the ass-draggers, I have a feeling that "Creepers" will turn out to be correct for the English version (but I'm sticking to ass-draggers in the meantime.) They must be the nastiest looking of all the monsters so far....

The Creepers are kinda weird, because they seem mobile-y challenged. They just kinda scoot around. And all four of their legs are guns, if I'm not mistaken.

I never noticed they had legs at all. Aren't they really just snakes or something?

From Wikipedia: Creepers
This monster has a humanoid, semi-organic upper body and a mechanical tail. It pulls itself on its two front legs. Its exceptionally powerful laser is within its flap-like "mouth," which in turn makes up most of its "head." The Eye is on the upper flap, though Creepers have so few life points it is not necessary to hit them there.

I get my season 2 monsters messed up. The TARANTULAS have 4 gun legs, the CREEPERS just kinda slither around with their arms. Either way, they don't seem too efficient, do they?

It's easy to get them mixed up, Rooobs, because the Creepers' arms are very similar to the Tarantulas' arms.
-
But even if you can't see the Creepers' draggy butts, the heads are completely different. They are very spherical, and they open like unto the visor on a knight's armor (and inside is the gun.) Nasty little critters.... :Lulu:

Gosh, Wikipedia has a lot of stuff about CL. It looks like they are just collecting facts as the program airs, like we are, rather than having any kind of special source for the info.
-
Anyway, here's Wikipedia's names of monsters:

"# 5.2 Season 1 Monsters (X.A.N.A. only)

* 5.2.1 Hornets (French: Frelions)
* 5.2.2 Crabs (French: Krabes)
* 5.2.3 Blocks (French: Bloks)
* 5.2.4 Roachsters (French: Kankrelats)
* 5.2.5 Megatanks
* 5.2.6 Guardians

# 5.3 Season 2 Monsters: X.A.N.A.

* 5.3.1 Tarantulas
* 5.3.2 Transport Orb
* 5.3.3 Creepers
* 5.3.4 Scyphozoa
* 5.3.5 (Flying) Mantas"

Well, I am going to stick to "Medusa" for the pesky jellyfish. The French kids are using it, I think, and Scyphozoa is just the scientific word for the same thing.
"Tarantula" is a poor choice, but I guess we have to go along with it. All the rest are fine with me. :Tchoucky:

Kankrelats have been mixed in with the Tarantulas lately; I wonder if that has caused some confusion? :sm27:

(Ya know, the Kankrelats don't look any more like roaches than the Tarantulas look like spiders. Mayhaps Odd needs contacts....)

I like the cave cricket looking things....and for those of you who don't know, a cave cricket looks like this-->Image
Ugly bugs.......*shudder*
(What I'm talking about is the things with the blasters in their arms, and they've got four legs. I don't call them tarantulas, cause they look nothing like that.)
And those things look so much better than cave crickets. ^_^ :lol:

~~~~
That medusa thing is pretty cool, too, except for the fact that it does absolutely nothing, and never has any effect on Aelita. You would think that if it were draining her memory, she wouldn't get the ones it's already plummed back when its arms are cut off. But the colors are cool, as is the transperancy of its arms. ^_^ So yeah....oh, another thing that bothers me is, she never runs. What's up with that? I wonder if it has that sort of effect on her, to where she can't run, as the actual medusa would on those she's trying to kill with her snakey hair.........hm.........
kystrel: Most of us have been expressing similar sentiments. As for the tarantula, we all dislike that name, but Odd gave it to them explicitly in one of the episodes, so we feel that we are stuck with it. I always wanted to call them "mantises" or "mantids", which is two legs closer to being appropriate, but Odd outvotes us all. Anyhoo, they are by far the best-liked of the monsters -- I, for one, am crazy about them, and exo gets very irritable when an episode fails to include them....
-
The "medusa" name doesn't refer directly to old snakey-hair, but, very appropriately, to the giant many-tentacled jellyfish that have been named after her. Its real name is "scyphozoa", but even the French kids have revolted at that and are sticking to "medusa".
-
And, again, there have been complaints about how Aelita always holds still for it, even before it gets near her. Very irritating, ain't it! Image
The scyphozoa/medusa is more like a jellyfish, I think.
The tarantulas? I think I agree with the mantis comparison.
