Oooops, sorry about that, CP. Thanks for correcting it. I almost made an even bigger mistake because I was assuming that the graphic in question was your Sissi masterpiece, but luckily I checked and got straightened out. I hope my rotten français convinced them that I am a real, live ricain....

I am anxious to see how this turns out. Surely they will correct it. If they do agree that it is yours, will it be left in the contest under your name, or just withdrawn? Or does this controversy doom it to being excluded from winning?

Here's a question more to the prevailing subject: I can't quite get the meaning of the word "po" that everyone is using. At first I thought it meant the same as "pas", but I have decided that that's wrong. Geez, it's even in one of our smilies! So tell me already -- what meaning does "po" convey?

Po==pas, you're right.

Je sais pas -> Je sais po.

MacIntoc answered but i just want to add that it isn't a word we use speaking ( we say "pas" ) ! and we wouldn't write it on ... an essay or a letter etc... cause it isn't a proper french word
so it is just a strange word you'll just find on internet
we could write "pas" or "pa" but some of them prefer "po" .

Btw, the word takes an accent (pô).

I think we could translate "c'est pô juste" by "it ain't fair".

The inclusion of "peu" probably explains why I was uncomfortable about assuming it was "pas" in some places that I saw it. It's almost as if I understand French (arf?) And, "titeufienne", there's a good word to know; that looks like a cool cartoon.

As for the accent, considering who would want to use "pô" and in what slangy situations they use it, the accent seems somehow inappropriate. But it's good to know about it. (Always know the correct way before you deliberately mangle it, hein?)

Speaking of different languages . .

They teach English in French schools right?

When do they start kids learning other languages?

some french school allow the pupils to begin learning english early ! ( at the age of 9 in some case ( like me) but these are special cases !


I don't know exactly if the french school system is different of the american one but in france the college lasts four years : ( sixiéme , cinquiéme , quatriéme , troisiéme , then it is the lycée ( high school ) with seconde, premiére and finally terminale )
usually At the begin of the college , we choose a foreign language ( english or german )
we can choose a secon foreign language at the quatriéme ; If at the "sixiéme" we chose german, we must learn english ! But if we chose english at the "sixiéme" , we have the choice between german, italian, spanish .

furthermore , pupils who enter in the " quatriéme " can choose to discover the " latin" and in the " troisiéme " , grec !!

an other thing , i don't know exctly how it is possible but some of my friends have got three foreign languages ?!?

That depends of the school. I started to learn ancient greek in 6th. And it's possible to learn latin from this class.

When I was in sixième, it was also possible to learn both Latin and Greek. But things have changed and it seems that, nowadays, you can start Latin only in cinquième and Greek in troisième...

Yeah, weird, but I like European foot very much, and I have found that practicing my français by reading something I'm not interested in, like the "Journal Français" which dotes to excess on the arts, food, and tourism and is written just for silly ricains, is a pain. Hence, AnimeLand and Onze.

As for foot in general, it is my favorite spectator sport. I like ice hockey and I tolerate baseball, but I detest American gridiron football and especially (ugh!) basketball. I also detest Latin American foot, because of all the (worse than in your hemisphere) diving, phony injury displays, and general nastiness. That leaves European foot, especially English, French, and Italian.

Yes, "soccer" is gaining in the USA, but it still has a long way to go. The main way in which it is gaining is that it has been "discovered" by a lot of people as a great kids' sport, and when this generation of kids grow up there will be a lot of new fans.

Yes, our females are great -- surprisingly. I love watching the ladies play because, I think, they are always worrying about being called sissies, so they completely avoid the hated diving and all that dramatic rolling on the ground in pain. The result is that they jump up and play-on if they have nothing more serious than two broken legs and an eye missing, and there is very little of that play-acting that the guys do. An interesting contradiction.

In the States we typically start learning other languages in High school.
Most people begin high school around when they are about 14 or 15 years old. To get in to a College people are sometimes required need to take at least 2 years of a foreign language in high school.

Sometimes schools start teaching foreign languages earlier, but it isn't very common.

The most common language to learn is Spanish. Some schools offer more than one foreign language, but it isn't the same for every school.

I started taking French in 7th grade, or about 12 years old. My middle school offered French and Spanish. Now that I live next door to Mexico, I should have taken Spanish...
I like soccer/football, too! I played on a league when I was between 6-10 years old, but I haven't really played it much since. I started following English football about 2 years ago (as you might be able to gell from my sig!). As for Mexican football, I doubt their best team would last one half against a League 2 team... I still watch it on the 8 channels in Spanish that we have here.

Inspired by a debate on another forum:

Are the "sewers" of Code Lyoko are actually part of a drainage systems for water or do they actually contain human waste like "sewers" in America do?

Are there other possibilities for these "sewers"? Could they be abandon "sewers"? Could they mainly transport waist water from factories?

Sewers and water have their own drainage system.

But I don't if sewerage have other functions or if some parts are abandoned (some parts are very old, builted by Romain Empire, but i'm not sure).
