Thanks, Rooobster! Gosh, it's larger than I had realized....

I think they should build a factory on it, with a curved end full of windows, and a quaint suspension bridge for access. (In other words, I want l'usine Renault back! sob, sniff!)

For those who live in France:
What is everyday life like in France? Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to live there.

yes, it will be difficult to explain to you. I think that I'll use a translator. But I only explain how is a day for me near of Paris.
I don't know how can be a life in another place.

I'll come back when I had thought about it

Hey. I'm an American. From the US. Been out of the country twice in my life, both times to Mexico. I can't speak French at all. I can speak a little Spanish. I'm taking Spanish at school. I should have taken French. lol.

Just wondering--do French people really hate Americans? I've heard that you do and I've heard that you don't. We're really not horrible people or anything.

I don't think we can lump everyone into one group or another. Some of my friends from from high school and college were prejudiced against France for no reason (which pissed me off), but at the same time, more kids took French at my high school than Spanish.
I, for one, love France and want to go there some day. France is full of cool stuff!

Image I think most of us just hate each other's politicians. But what the hey, we hate our own politicians too. They're all jerks.

Here's a question for the French:
Have any of you visited Kadic or Ile Seguin?

Here's a random question: Are common French names the same as American?
commom american names are...
girls: jessica, jennifer, katie, courtney, emily, casey, megan, morgan
boys: derek, austin, dylan, jack, jeremy, christopher, trevor

I have some strange obsession with names. Thats why I'm asking.
Glory be to God,
Hayze

Hayze:
Here's a site I go to when I need names for stories: http://www.behindthename.com/
It has a long list of names, plus their meanings.

Back when I was in high school French class, everyone had French versions of their names. Many of them were similar to the American name.

For starters, if a Yank name ends with a "y", replace it with "ie". It usually works.... Image

Say, CS, could you enlighten us on some of the French slang that you know more about than us? Like ricain and hein. I see them, but don't know what they mean and neither does the translator.

Soiten'y, soiten'y.

"ricain" is just the latter part of "Americain". It's one of those words, like "gringo" and "limey" that are offensive or not depending on whether you "smile when you say that, podnuh". I use it to refer to myself a lot because it sort of unarms people who are thinking of using it on me offensively. Like good-natured Italians call themselves "wops", Poles: polocks, etc., etc. My traducteur translates "ricain" simply as "yank", incidentally.
-
"hein?" translates exactly as "eh?" or "huh?", plain and simple. The characters in my French-language manga(s) use it heavily. It happens to be one of those rare words that are more easily understood when heard than when read, because it's pronounced "unh?', very close to our "huh?" I don't understand why traducteurs don't handle it well, because it is a very consistent, tacked-on, uncomplicated word. It's also used all by itself, perhaps by a surprised person, but the parallel is still the same. (Most traducteurs are intended for business correspondence -- I guess that's it.)
-
Fun for us ricains, hien? Image

Again, how are things in France? Anyone from Yumi2004 taking to the streets in protest?
I hear "L'Homme" (The Man) is trying to stick it to us kids again. What do you think of the new job laws ?

As usual: there are strikes. What would be France without strikes and marches?

But how do you know about that?
