Wow, chauvre-souris, you have dial up? With your graphics, I thought you had some super computer! I'm always scared I'm going to crash this one if I save too much to it.

Finally saw Castle in the Sky yesterday, it didn't match up to my expectations. Was nothing compared to Metropolis.

Hmm, I've never seen Metropolis all the way through. the old style animtion put me off and had tape and dvd problems. The theme that cought me with Castle in theSky was this is the first time that characters I expected to be villians, turned out to be allies and friends. Just finished Porko Ruoso, it was a very nice show, but the fact that he was a pig was very out of place, though it gave it the lightness that maybe kids would understand.

There's actually a reason Porco became a pig. More on that can be found at Nausicaa.net Porco Rosso FAQ.
I thought Castle in the Sky was good, although if I had first watched it when I was about 7, it would have been much better. I feel like the ending is kinda sad, even now.

Welllll, there's not really a connection between the two. I have a fairly snappy little laptop computer -- it's just my communications hookup, which was installed by Mr. Watson (Alexander Graham Bell's assistant), so it takes forever to send or receive anything (especially graphics).
What kind of computer is your

"this one"? If it has a hard disk in the "gigabytes" range, you can probably save stuff to your heart's content. You won't start having trouble until it's around 3/4 or more full. (Foregoing remark subject to approval by someone with a triple-"O" in his name....)

This computer is a HP pavillion xt966. But it went for a year or so without any kind of virus protection, firewalls, pop-up blockers or anything. So it needs Windows XP installed and the hard drive wiped. We have Windows ME on it now.

If you treat them right, computers will last a long time. Mine's been in service since 2001 and once I got it working (...) it's been great ever since.

Yeah, well, 4 people use mine, and it's often neglected for upkeep since we rely on my dad to do it. No one else knows how.

Mine's a Feb, 2003 Toshiba notebook, from their mid/low-price range, and it hasn't missed a beat. Since the arrival of USB, I see no reason to have a full-size machine and heavy CRT weighing down my puny desk.

I have a 2001 Alienware. I guess they're doing pretty well these days, but I hope they have their act together a little better than they did 4 years ago. When it arrived, it took me 2 days of tech support to get it running... And every time I open it up, I seem to break something.
We have a Dilbert comic on the wall at work that sums this up nicely. The IT guy is "fixing" someone's computer. He says "Well, I fixed 3 things, but I also broke 3 things. In IT terms, I came out on top." The lady says "So does my computer work now?" and the IT guy responds "No, but if it did, it would be much faster."

Sorry, I seem to have forgotten to explain the rest of it.
I open up my computer when it breaks. I fix what's broken, but in the meantine, break something else. This happens 2-3 times, then I finally get everything working.

Hey garooob...Why don't you just put a big sticky note on the side of your computer that says, "NO!" every time you're tempted to open it up?
